An ongoing request for you, the reader!

Listen, Fam.

Writing and inspiration are weird. It’s hard to write when one isn’t exactly inspired, and inspiration doesn’t come every day. But if one doesn’t write every day to hone one’s voice and craft, then all of it is impeded when inspiration DOES come.

So here’s my request to you:

Comment on this post or message me with things you’d like to read about. Gimme a writing prompt. Tell me about a facet of your life that bothers you. Tell me about the sensation of running your hands on the bark of a tree. Tell me about that dude or lady who checked you out at the till, but not without leaving a lasting impression on you.

Ask me to try my hand at a sonnet or haiku, or request I capture a moment for you that you wished had lasted forever.

On days that inspiration is scarce and I have no idea what to write about, your inspiration will be a boon to me.

And some of you know wordforms that I have no experience in nor a desire to explore. I suspect that those are the most important writing prompts.

I've been writing poetry since I was little. These poems have always been my means of resolving the world as it is against the world as it should be. Writing has been my great catharsis. I hope that you and I may be able to share in that.

    Growing up, everyone’s father left the kitchen table in a mess. Describe that table and what lays on it.

      Normally I’d pick and choose writing prompts. But since you’re the first to give me one, I’ll make a comemoration of it! It wont be this week, but look forward to seeing something about dads and messes on the table soon!

  2. I really enjoy reading about “everyday moments”. Would love for you to capture moments in our everyday lives that we take for granted. Playing with your kids, listening to music and dancing in the kitchen while you cook and clean, the talks with loved ones as you’re taking a walk. Etc.

  3. Imma be narcissistic and say you could write one about our long friendship! Or maybe about my wedding, that would be cool to have in sonnet form.

    Have you ever considered doing narrative poetry Homer/Beowulf style?

  4. I’ve developed and discovered a couple of fun writing prompts that have led to some interesting stuff:
    Here’s one: Thing of a body part (or something of the body: breath, voice, etc.) but a “part” or “parts” tends to work best: legs, eyes, hands, chest, etc. (Don’t pick “mind.”) Settle on a part you find emblematic, significant, or troublesome.
    Now,
    Choose a relative. Mother, father, etc.
    This is the title of your poem: This/These (Body part(s)), Not my (Relative)’s
    Here’s another: There are people who_________, and people who __________, but/and then there are people who_________.
    It’s a free write–might turn into a poem or an essay.
