The Creek Behind your House

I didn't leave you
Because I hated you;

I left because
If my heart had its way,

Then we would have given
          Each and every
Cell in your body
A chance to cut us--

--Convinced there'd be just one
Who'd remember that
Long Summer afternoon
           In the forest
Where we professed our love
To one another--

--Our words disguised
As a conversation about fire ants.

From the Author

Sometimes it's good to run away from problems or people. When you run from a problem, then you have the opportunity to observe: If that problem follows you wherever you escape to, then the problem lives inside you in some form.

And if you run away from a problematic person, then suddenly your life stops falling apart... Well, that was probably a very* abusive relationship.

Whatever you chose to run from, remember: Problems and problematic people always have claws. You can't leave them without leaving chunks behind. There's this... emptiness left in their place. This is unavoidable, and often the pain is enduring. Sometimes you leave behind more than you intend...

It sucks, man... But from this place I'm at, I can tell you with certainty: Sometimes it's necessary to leave the ones you love unconditionally- for both your sakes.

With love,

I've been writing poetry since I was little. These poems have always been my means of resolving the world as it is against the world as it should be. Writing has been my great catharsis. I hope that you and I may be able to share in that.
