Phagophobia

If i fell into the gullet
Of a terrible waking song
Would you come after me?

If the words of wisdom
You so kindly shared
Won’t penetrate the monster’s
Skin
Gut
Marrow
Will you save me from the confines
And from the dark?

Please, don’t call it nature
But call it something vile.

Drop your things and rescue me
Or I’ll haunt you.

From the Author

You know what the most terrifying thing is? It’s the way that pelicans eat baby chicks of other species by swallowing them whole. This work is about children and predation.

I've been writing poetry since I was little. These poems have always been my means of resolving the world as it is against the world as it should be. Writing has been my great catharsis. I hope that you and I may be able to share in that.

      1. I watched a YouTube video of this and regret it. Curiosity does that. Pelicans used to be one of my favorite animals (mostly due to Finding Nemo) now I’m just grateful they’re not big enough to do that to humans.
